But when I visited last week, I was still unprepared for the size of Lingua Franca's long, low winery adjacent to it. Still a construction zone, the 18,000-case facility is big for Oregon, where they usually count Pinot Noir labels in the hundreds of cases.
The remainder is comprised of fruit from selected vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills near to us that have similar terroirs and flavors. The predominant clone is Chardonnay 76, which has a crisp acidity and reflects mineral qualities from the soil. AVNI Pinot Noir reflects the complex flavor profile of Eola-Amity Hills fruit, born of volcanic soils on hillside vineyards and sourced primarily from neighbors in Hopewell.

The fruit for the 2018 The Plow comes from the best parts of Blocks 1 and 2, PN777 on Gelderman-Jory Complex, a type of shallow volcanic soil about 2-5 feet deep with a layer of large gravels that impart extra energy to the vines and create more complex and intense flavors.
The fruit is sorted in the vineyard, then sorted by hand, finally by a special destemmer/sorter, handled so as to preserve the terroir of this remarkable site.
