The terms "Murray Bay" and "Murray River" appear on many maps instead of "La Malbaie" and "Rivière La Malbaie" respectively. Records of the destruction in the St-Maurice Valley have been thought to indicate a much greater intensity for the 1663 shock. Murray Bay is the name of a landing a few miles from La Malbaie. One of these areas is the Charlevoix Seismic Zone (CSZ) of Quebec, one of the most seismically active regions of Canada (Figure 1).
