I have no doubt that having a highly competitive scholarship behind me will be a help, but how much of a difference does it make really?While the above is my main question, if you would be kind enough to provide any tailored feedback or advice, here are some stats about me.I am looking to enter a PhD in theoretical neuroscience or neural engineering next year.I am currents an undergraduate, double majoring in bioengineering (concentration: electrical/biophysics) and applied mathematicsI have one publication as second author from an REU, and a couple other papers that are not polished enough for publication (they haven't been submitted at all)My GRE score is 159 verbal, 169 quant, and 4.5 analytical writingI have a fairly extensive research history, but it is somewhat scattered over 4 different major projects under 3 different PIs, not all directly related to the research I want to do during my PhDI have done one REU and am currently doing an internship at a top 10 tech company, where I am primarily working as a programmer and in mathematical modeling of information flowI can probably count on 3 people for good recommendation letters, maybe two others but I unfortunately am terrible at communication so I wouldn't be surprised if they are unwilling to write for me.I have no other major non-institutional scholarships or awards outside of GoldwaterI have worked really hard over the past few years to put myself in a position where I can feel competitive for good PhD programs, but I can't help but feel like its not enough.
