The baguette was obviously not high quality, but a nice alternative to the typical soft, sweet standard sandwich bun.Julie actually liked the lemon chicken sandwich, and it was definitely better than the odd black bun burger we had the last time around. She is an avid over thinker of the esoteric and obscure. but not great either.

Yikes.Much to our surprise, the pizza wasn’t terrible. Little bits of pickled vegetables were between the chicken and lettuce adding to the ready-to-eat meal flavor palate. The constant surprise of which one would fly up my straw was disconcerting.My favorite new addition to the McDonald’s China menu, the Sichuan burger tops my list of must-eats. The crispy chicken wrap was a play on Peking duck, a tortilla wrapped around fried chicken with cucumbers and hoisin sauce (the traditional garnishes for Peking duck) though KFC added a healthy dose of mayo for no apparent reason. The chicken wing, while shockingly large, tasted just like a wing.We finished with the red bean pie, which was very similar to the McDonald’s pie: smaller than the US version, with incredibly crispy pastry. Without the use of chopsticks, eating small pieces of bone-in chicken with a spork – yes, that’s right, we got a spork – did not make for graceful eating. McDonald’s appears to be going for “French-inspired” flavors now. Hard to go wrong with melted cheese.Lastly, the strangest dish of our Western chain adventure: potato gratin with cheese and durian.
