It parallels the brook to Franconia Falls, usually frozen and a unique visual experience. Good for strollers, young kids and dogs on leashes. We walked up across the bridge that went to the wilderness boundary area. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from March until October. Coasting the 3 miles back down the bumpy rail tracks is awesome on the bikes. There are active bears! To reach the trailhead, follow the Kancamagus Hwy 5 miles east of I-93 and park in the Lincoln Woods Visitor Center parking lot.Upon arrival at the Pemigewasset Wilderness boundary, you can either retrace your steps, or continue 6 miles on the easy The parking lot and restrooms at the trailhead are open year-round. Bond, and at 4.0 km (2.5 miles) there is a panoramic vista of Franconia Ridge.Pine Island Trail - Easy 1.3 km (0.8 mile), by-passes the first hill (1.0 km, 0.6 mile) on the Pemigewasset East Side Road. There were a lot of people coming back toward the Falls when we left.Not much in the way of a hike but nice and flat, perfect for a long distance run or a long walk with your dog.Went up for a scenic drive and came across this trail on 5/9/20. National Forest information, a warming fire, hot and cold beverages, and limited retail goods are available at the concessionaire operated Visitors' Center. From the parking lot to the falls and back it's about 6 miles round-trip. Not too much elevation change, and lovely trees.Lovely, gentle hike to Franconia Falls and Black Pond off the Lincoln Woods Trail.Still has some snow on parts of trail.
Dogs are also able to use this trail.It wasn't really a hike It was much more of a walk but it was beautiful. The trail follows an abandoned railroad grade. Falls are beautiful once you arrive!!!
